Fairy Tale About Normality

curatorial project (21/08/2021)
artists: Nadia Markiewicz, Jan Możdżyński, Liliana Zeic (Piskorska)
curator: Daniel Kotowski
venue: Zachęta – National Gallery of Art

“Fairy Tale About Normality” refers to the theme of the display of works from the collection of Zachęta called “Socially Appropriate, Statistically Average, Scientifically Sound, Personally Desirable…”. It addresses the issue of the “average person” model and biopower. Nowadays, many of us experience various kinds of social oppression. We try to conform to norms or protest against them. The norms are different for each person. People who fit into the socially prescribed picture, the privileged ones, often remain unaware of their position. The fairy tale talks about trivial human everyday life when we do not see, or we see.
